THE EVIL EMPIRE

The Evil Empire is a single channel  video created between the years 2007-2008. The plot takes place in the heart of Vatican City in the year 2046. Surrounded by the glorious frescoes and wealth of his St. Peter’s Basilica apartment, a  fictional Pope Urban the LXIX is a young man struggling with an addiction to pornography, similar to many ordinary men in contemporary society. Pope Urban the LXIX has fully embraced the darkest ways of the 21st Century, fulfilling all of his impulses and vices to no end. Within this dystopian vision of contemporary society the artist gives the audience a glimmer of justice - in the end Pope Urban is ironically sent on a journey through Hell where he pays for all of his sins. Despite the video ending on a carousel of blood, it culminates with a positive note that jolts the audience to attention and presents them with a call to reverse the damage that corruption has caused in today’s society.
